Biography

 


Born in Silver City, New Mexico, Sam graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with Math, Computer Science, and Economics emphasis.  While attending NMSU, he was active in the Theta Chi Fraternity, and the Tennis team.


He was asked to join E-Systems (now Raytheon), during which he amassed considerable knowledge to design hardware, software, and implement Voice, Data, and Videoconferencing systems worldwide for NATO Armed Forces.  Living and working in Frankfurt, Germany has given him International experience with multiple nationalities, governments, vendors, and personnel.


After returning to the United States, he migrated to a Systems Engineer position at American Airlines, where he coordinated projects on a global scale. Videoconferencing has been a strength, as a Product Director, analyzing, managing, coordinating, and videoconferencing equipment worldwide, as well as publication in various trade magazines and industry publications.


The rapid growth of the Internet brought new challenges in the development of Internet startup companies, Business Plan development, and Marketing partnerships. By active involvement in new business development with IION Corporation, Mr. Torrez has gained experience in the profit/loss, company valuation, and expansiveness of business practice in the Internet age.  The accepted roles of startup company directorate, strategist, marketing and sales director, and operations officer has yielded experience in high-growth technology companies.


He spent several years in Sales, Marketing, and Business Development, specializing in Data (MPLS, Frame Relay, Internet), Voice (PRI, T1, pots lines, PBX, KSU, Phone systems), Videoconferencing (Polycom, Tandberg, Picturetel, etc.), Satellite Television Programming, Content Delivery, Data Center / Hosting, Web Caching / Streaming, and Live Event Production.  These sales years also helped develop skills in Channel / Distribution Management, and Client / Vendor relationships throughout the USA, Europe, Mexico, and Korea.


Additionally, Sam was asked to join Centex Corporation to assist in Project Management, develop internal Procedures and Documentation, and act as a Liaison role between management, end users and vendors.  Along the way, he became known as an authority in Mergers and Acquisitions, as well as Corporate Divestitures for the firm.


As full a life as his business profession has been, Sam found time to pursue his passions of cars, bicycles, motorcycles, and almost anything with wheel and tires!    He participated in USCF (United States Cycling Federation) bicycle racing, and had the chance to race against Lance Armstrong.  Sam also enjoys Golf, Wristwatch Collecting, and Automotive events with the local BMW car club.


After years of experience in multiple industries of endeavor and specialty areas of industry, Sam began consulting with several individuals and networking groups to help other individuals with education, information, and helping each other achieve their personal and professional goals.In March 2008, Mr. Torrez successfully passed the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam, and is a Certified, active PMP at this time.  He is now preparing for IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification,  with a Service Manager's focus.


He became a Business Development Manager for EZ Collaborator, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application for collaborative project & resource tracking.  This endeavor is a part-time effort to help a friend, while pursuing a permanent role in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.


He was asked to join Hewlett Packard / EDS as a Supply Chain Consultant.  This position is an exciting and challenging opportunity, managing HP's Supply base, Contract Development and Negotiation, Supplier Management, Risk Mitigation, Process Definition, negotiate Margins, and Compliance.  Other responsibilities include managing global Projects to execute procurement strategies, monitoring program operations, and deploying a Global Managed Service Provider (MSP).
